They made an appointment to see me in my office, hopped on a plane, flew across Australia from Melbourne and paid me $25,000 to solve their business problems.

Implemented Action: Embarked on a direct marketing campaign designed to ensure that they became the dominant force in their market. After all, even though the rules had changed there was still business to be had, we just wanted to ensure we had most of it.

Result: Fast forward just on 12 months, their lives and business lives have been permanently transformed. So has that of their family and staff. At a recent seminar Mark and Carl stood up and described their current situation and I think if my memory serves me well they went from a loss to over $300,000 profit in an industry that has been devastated by regulatory changes in recent years.

BIG IDEA: Dissatisfaction leads to financial freedom: Hard working husband and wife consulting team fell into the common limiting trap of exchanging time for money, working long hours, never having any time for themselves or their family because they couldn’t get off the treadmill due to financial commitments.

Implemented Action: As part of my coaching program they embarked on a deliberate strategy to create residual passive income using direct response marketing on the internet selling e-books and online coaching and membership.

Result: In their first 12 months they earned $250,000 US online, even more 12 months later. All while they sleep without having to talk to a single client.

Hidden Windfall Profit: They now mentor other people who are in a similar position as they were to do what they now do themselves through an online membership site charging $49 a month. They also present at seminars nationally and internationally selling their products and coaching program.

REBELLIOUS CASE HISTORY #3: RETAIL FISH AND CHIPS SHOP
BIG IDEA: Massive Competitor Builds New Premises and Opens Within 200m: Faced with the prospect of a competitor that owns their own boats and catches their own fish opening new premises within just a few metres, Mike and Steve had little choice but to respond aggressively by hiring me to ‘reinvent’ their business and ‘reinvent’ we did.

Implemented Action: Identified the best selling products, cut the rest and created a unique promise to the marketplace. “If a bone is found in your fish it’s free.” Created a competition to gather the name, address and email of people who visited the store and gathered approximately 1300 names in the first month and followed up with direct response letters, emails and offers. Plus gave away samples of their product on the busy cappuccino strip outside their store.

Result: Contrary to popular belief, it’s more profitable and easier to be good at a finite number of products, hence the business became easier to run and more profitable. Mailed and emailed the 1300 clients regularly (not sure how many they have these days) and on the first mailing approximately 30% of people responded to their offer. Giving away samples of their products resulted in immediate sales and in fact if my memory serves me well squid rings went from a few kilos a week to 50kg a week due to this strategy.

Hidden Windfall Profit: Instead of being sent to the wall, their turn-over went from about $8000 a week to $20,000+. Last time I spoke to Mike they were opening a second store (confirmed and opened in Fremantle, Sunday Times 14.01.07), were talking about franchising all over the country and there was an expression of interest from a Singaporean to buy the rights to Asia.

Stories like these are not uncommon. Another client in the speaking consulting field is up $100,000+ a month after bumbling along in the business for years. Another knock about labourer earns more money in a week than he used to earn in a year, filthy, dirty, sweating under the hot sun.
